James clarifies and encourages us in this text that we are not only to “continue in” the Word, but we are also to give ourselves in ministry. It is this two-pronged focus—the Word and the work—that brings about that perfect maturity and soundness in our lives. “The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul;…” (Psalm 19:7).
