The Lord is a covenant-making and covenant-keeping God. He does not deal with us on the basis of random promises, but takes the initiative of entering into a covenant with His people. A modern synonym of “covenant” is “contract.” People like to do business on the basis of a contract, where all the contingencies for both sides are spelled out.
God has clearly spelled out what He will do for us. He has promised to keep His people free from diseases, but He conditions the promise upon our diligent obedience. This is not only a spiritual concept, but also an intensely physical one.
The covenant is made absolutely certain by the fact that God joins His mighty name to the promise, calling Himself Yahweh-Rapha, meaning “the LORD who heals.” This is one of the compound names by which God revealed His attributes to Israel. Here His very name declares it is His nature to be the Healer to those who obey His word. Remember that our Lord will always act according to His nature. Ask Him now!
