The lawless one comes with Satan’s “power, signs, and lying wonders” (2:9), but it is no match for the Lord’s return in almighty power. The same breath that spoke creation into being and breathed life into Adam will consume God’s enemies. All of hell’s power will be overthrown when Jesus returns, and, in the “brightness of His coming,” there dawns a new day for all of God’s people.
The ultimate fulfillment of that new day is Jesus’ second coming to earth, but the power of that new day is for every believer everyday. Jesus comes with almighty power to consume the adversaries of our souls, which draw us into sin and struggle. Jesus awaits the day and hour of the Father’s release to win back the planet, but He won the battle for you and me, as believers, at the cross in His first coming. Invite Him to vanquish the forces of hell in your life and family, so that we may experience “the brightness of His coming” in our personal worlds even now.
