Jesus taught in parables for two reasons: to hide the truth of His kingdom from those who had hard hearts and to reveal the truth of His kingdom to those who had ears to hear (Matt. 13:10–17). The revelation that “the field is the world, the good seeds are sons of the kingdom” was explained to his disciples. Why? Because they would receive it, even if they did not yet understand it!
Popular thinking was that Israel alone represented the sons of God’s Kingdom, and the sons of the wicked one were all non-Jews. Jesus did not come to establish a nationalistic kingdom, but to proclaim the good news of God’s kingdom to every nation on earth.
How are your ears? Are they ready to hear? Are you ready to grow in your understanding of the universal nature of Christ’s kingdom? Are you, like Christ’s first disciples, ready to respond and do your part in making disciples of all nations?
