The truth of this parable in Luke is sobering. A nobleman has given resources to certain people in his realm to manage in his absence. Upon his return he commands that an accounting be made of all the money that was placed in their charge. To those who earned profit, there was great reward, and both were given cities to rule. However, the one who buried the money and simply returned the amount given had the money taken from him and was rebuked by his master.
We do not know the day or time of the Lord’s return, but each of us has been given gifts, resources, and talents to further advance God’s kingdom. Our salvation does not depend on what we do with those gifts, however, advancing the kingdom of God in the world does depend on our stewardship of the gifts the Lord has given us. Jesus is coming again, and He will reward those with faithful stewardship and boldness in ministry for Him. Let the gifts He has given you find their fullest fruit, multiplying blessing in His kingdom and producing unmatched joy in your life.
