Jesus’ last words in all of Scripture are strategically placed so that all who believe will never forget, “I am coming quickly.” This promise from the Savior’s lips has come to us in God’s Word through the pens of prophets, the voices of angels, and the teachings of the apostles. This promise is found throughout the Old Testament and is the blessed hope of the New Testament (Titus 2:13). God’s covenant promise to His people is that one day eternity will once again intersect humanity, but this time we will always be with the Lord.
These final words of Jesus in Scripture were delivered to a first-century church beleaguered by false prophets and persecution, which led to martyrdom in the Coliseum in Rome. It was the devil’s vicious attempt to snuff the infant beginning of the Lord’s church. Jesus’ words brought hope then, and they still do. Regardless of the current trial of your life, do not let this hope be overshadowed, Jesus is coming quickly!
