Expectation and Invitation

And the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely. -Revelation 22:17

“Oh Lord, come!” is the continual cry of the Spirit within the Church, as we long for our heavenly Bridegroom.

This cry echoes an equally earnest call, which is the invitation of Christ Himself given through His Bride to the lost is, “if anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink” (John 7:37). God calls to mankind in a generous, yet urgent, way to “come to the waters” of life (Is. 55:1).

Expectation and invitation go together. The Lord’s return and world evangelism are vitally connected. With our hands stretched up we cry, “Jesus, come back!” With our hands stretched out we call, “Come to Jesus!” So ends the book of Revelation and the Bible, and so will such a passionate cry and call end human history! Amen!
