The council demanded to know: “By what power or by what name have you done this?” (Acts 4:7). Peter answered, “By the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth! There is no other name by which we must be saved!” He simply declared what Jesus Himself had said: “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6).
In a world without moral absolutes, this sounds narrow-minded. What about sincere Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims and tribal religionists? What is the test of religious truth? It is resurrection from the dead! The historical proof of Jesus’ resurrection is unshakable. It is confirmed by the transformed lives of millions of believers.
When the issue is life or death, narrow-mindedness is essential. Who wants a “broad-minded” brain surgeon or airline pilot? If other religions could save, why did Jesus bother to come? His very coming clearly and forcefully proclaims there is no other way to be saved!
Yes, the way which leads to life must be narrow, but it is open to all who will call upon His Name. Hallelujah!
