Jesus is the Great Intercessor, and in His high priestly prayer in John 17, He requested of His Father that His disciples would be one and, “that the world may know that You have sent Me” (John 17:23). United by both the Spirit of God and an understanding of the fulfillment of God’s redemptive purposes through Jesus, the early Church prayed: “Give us boldness to speak the word of God.” Their intercession joined with the Great Intercessor, and the Lord heard and answered their request. Filled with the Holy Spirit, they proclaimed the gospel boldly and became witnesses not only to their fellow Jews but to the Gentiles, as well. Nations became the inheritance of the Messiah through them! Students of Christian missions tell us there are nearly 24,000 distinct “nations” or “people groups” in our world.
Let us ask the Lord for disciples to be made from each of these “nations” and become a part of His inheritance.
