We cannot trust someone we do not know. These verses hold two key words to discovering a loving, trustworthy Lord at work in our personal lives.
We are to acknowledge the Lord in all our ways. The word used here for “ways,” Hebrew “derek,” means “a road, a course, or a mode of action.” It suggests specific opportunities a person may encounter on a regular basis. Seeing His hand at work in everyday places opens our heart to trust Him in times of deepest trial.
The word “acknowledge,” Hebrew “yada,” means “to know by observation, investigation, or firsthand experience.” The highest level of knowledge is direct intimate contact. This refers to the life-giving intimacy of marriage. Applied to our spiritual lives, it suggests that prayer conceives and brings blessings and victories.
In the light of this text, we may safely conclude that if we maintain contact with God, He promises to direct our paths toward fruitful, life-begetting endeavors.
