Hebrews 11 is often referred to as the “Faith Hall of Fame” because it goes through Scripture naming great men and women of faith. We read that by faith and in obedience to God’s command Moses kept the Passover, the Jewish nation’s principle feast celebrated annually.
The death angel’s visit was the last of a series of plagues against Pharaoh, who refused to free the children of Israel from Egyptian bondage. To protect the firstborn of every Israelite home, the blood of a lamb was to be put upon the door posts, declaring that the innocent lamb had died in place of the firstborn (Ex. 12:1–14). Because the death angel passed over those homes, the lamb became known as the Passover lamb.
Jesus, at His death, fulfilled the symbolism of the Passover (Luke 22:19, 20; 1 Cor. 5:7). He became our Passover lamb, and has now “delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love” (Col. 1:13).
